The predatory woman

Even if, pre-children, you had a really active social life and danced on tables until the wee hours, after you give birth, the prospect of climbing onto heels to paint the town red is about as appealing as being slapped with a wet fish.

And, with small children around, it can take years to get your social life back on track.

Something I’ve promised myself I’ll do this year is to be more adventurous socially (and I don’t mean I want to start swinging). I plan to spend less time on the sofa in the evenings, so that my husband and children no longer have a better social life than me.

Lil' Miss Temptress: You are not my friend

Lil’ Miss Temptress: You are not my friend

I honestly wouldn’t want my pilot to just sit in his hotel room when he’s on layovers, but then again, I don’t want him to have too good a time without me – especially as women can be predatory creatures.

We were stopped in our tracks the other day while walking out of our hotel by an attractive lady.

I say ‘we’, but it was DH she was talking to.

“Where do I know you from?” she asked him.

He didn’t instantly recognise her. They ran through some places – Tokyo, Paris, Hong Kong – but were still drawing a blank.

“I remember that we got on really well,” she said, flirtily.

“Just don’t tell my wife,” joked DH, putting his arm round me so she’d at least know I was standing right there (he never did work out who she was).

Her head turned towards me, our eyes met.

Hmm, I thought. I don’t like you.

“Do you live here?” (meaning London) she said, by way of a cursory acknowledgement.

“No,” I replied. “I live in Dubai, with my husband.'”

And then, the word ‘obviously‘ just slipped off my tongue.

Touché. Hands off! He’s mine!

Bahahah! Well done, girlfriend! Wish I’d been there – I would have cheered for you! ; )

Hmm, may be the predator and your DH had never met before. After all, a predator will do whatever to get her prey. Watch out for the next one.

  3. Shocking! I think Karen is quite right, she probably never had met him. Was he in Uniform at the time? 😉

    • Not in uniform no – but at least I know that because DH has such different interests to all the other crew (i.e., the females all go shopping; he’d rather go to a war museum), they go separate ways during the day! xx

I am smirking–LOVING the ‘obviously’ that just happened to slip off your tongue. And loving the comments here, especially Nappy’s shrewd question ‘was he in uniform’? The thing that drives me nuts is that WE can spot these women a mile off, but even the most observant men will just say ‘she was only being friendly…’ Grrrrrrrrrr.

  5. Good on YOU chucking in that ‘obviously’ at the end! 🙂

  6. Mrs Dubai says:

Oh good god, what a woman! Well done on staking your claim! Xx

  7. 😀
Love it! That was the perfect answer.

  8. I love your writing and love this post even more! Bravo 🙂

Just stumbled upon your blog. I’m sick in Phuket and surfing the net. Love the obviously statement! Met a temptress myself in Riyadh. She was cabin crew and during my first meeting with her she mentioned that when the wives leave for the summer she just loves cooking for the pilots. I said that I’m sure the wives just loooove thaaaat! Needless to say we did not become besties and she never cooked for my husband!

    • Euuw, what a minx! I do hope you’re feeling better now and managed to enjoy Phuket…thanks for stopping by and commenting – I hope the blog provided some light entertainment while you recuperated 🙂 x

I accidentally stumbled onto this thread and feeling a little let down by the writing.. I am crew based in Dubai, doing the job to allow me to pay for my studies. We all fly constantly and it is sometimes nice to visit the flight deck and have a slightly more mature conversation (as most flight crew are significantly older than us). The poor girl that came over to say hi in a “flirty” manner to your husband, was probably just trying to be nice. As a crew for the past 1.5 years, you could not pay me to get involved with a pilot! I know you have to trust your partner and what they tell you, but I am there on the layovers & see first hand what actually goes on. 9 times from 10, it is NOT the crew doing the chasing. If a crew comes over to say hi, it means she has a clear conscience so you shouldn’t try to “best” her… Ohh, and the uniform loses it’s “sparkle” when you see what we have seen… I hope your man is one of the very, very, very few good ones.

I agree, people do not ‘own’ each other.

As for this comment: ‘The trouble is, DH says far worse goes on when I’m not there!!! ‘ Uh oh. Red flag. Is he trying to unsettle you? This is something he should keep to himself. You sound insecure, and he is making things worse. I see trouble ahead.
